A week or so ago a friend of mine had a birthday so I decided to try this recipe for sea salt and brown butter rice krispie treats! They were super easy to make, budget friendly, and better than any rice krispie treat I’ve ever had! They taste like the familiar favorite, but on steroids. Amaze!
You only need 4 ingredients and maybe something cute to give them in. I bought a little farm basket from a shop in downtown Homewood called Twiggy Vines and wrapped the treats in cling wrap tied with raffia.
Not only is this easy, but it’s super quick too!
Butter or spray with non-stick cooking spray a 8×8 baking pan with 2-inch sides.
Melt butter over medium-low heat in a large pot. Stir frequently, scraping up any bits from the bottom. Keep stirring until the butter turns brown and begins to smell nutty. I was worried I wouldn’t notice the nutty smell, but it’s pretty distinct. Just don’t walk away because the time between turning brown and burning can be short!
Once the butter turns brown, remove from heat and stir in marshmallows until smooth. The heat from the butter should melt the marshmallows, but if not, put back on stove over low heat. Then, add in rice krispies and sea salt and stir together until evenly coated. Transfer to pan and spread out into an even layer, making sure to push into corners with a spatula, spoon, or fingers. Try to do this as quickly as possible as it will make it easier to spread into your pan. Once the treats are cool, cut into squares and serve!
Instead of a traditional birthday card, I wrote the recipe on a flat piece of cardstock stamped with a kitchen mixer rubber stamp from Hobby Lobby. On the other side, I wrote my birthday message. As a final touch, I used one of my most favorite gifts: the Besotted Brand laurel garland monogram stamp my mom gave me last Christmas. All done!
